Outspoken entrepreneur Dick Smith has taken another swipe at media mogul Rupert Murdoch, urging him to hold a major public interview while he is in the country about his "vision for Australia".

The call comes days after Mr Smith complained of censorship in the Murdoch press, saying News Ltd had rejected a "buy Australian" magazine he wanted to pay $180,000 to have inserted in their publications because it contained criticism of Mr Murdoch.

Mr Smith was scathing in July about the company's Australian operations chief, Kim Williams, for not running a paid advertisement that said News Ltd was not interested in free speech.

On Thursday, Mr Smith asked Mr Murdoch, "the person of influence with 70 per cent of our print media", whether he would do an interview to provide his opinion on issues including Australia's current political leadership, the direction of the economy, how refugees should be dealt with and climate change.
