| NEARLY $80million has been paid by the State Government's insurer to repair damaged fleet vehicles over the past 2 years, and more than 700 were written off.
Public servants' driving ability is under the spotlight with an average 26 claims a day from government agencies being made to the NSW Self Insurance Corporation, which falls under the control of Treasury.
Last financial year the insurer paid $32 million after 9613 claims for damaged cars, buses, trucks and other vehicles.
NSW Police topped the list of agencies seeking a payout with 49 vehicles written off and 1942 claims submitted - two of them to repair damaged vehicles which had been stolen.
The Hunter New England Area Health Service recorded the next worst figures: 489 claims and 33 vehicles written off.
