fRANCE: Woman Gets 8 Years for Banker's Bondage Murder

A woman who shot one of France's richest men in the head as he sat tied to a chair in a latex bodysuit has been found guilty of his murder, the Wall Street Journal reports. Cécile Brossard was sentenced to 8½ years for killing her lover, financier Edouard Stern, during an argument about money. Brossard said she flew into a rage after Stern accused of her being a prostitute.

Brossard, an artist, has been in pretrial detention for four years and could be freed as soon as next year. Prosecutors asked for a longer sentence, arguing that Brossard showed cruelty by not removing the pink bodysuit from Stern's body before she fled his apartment. The crime and subsequent revelations about Stern's sex parties scandalized the French financial establishment, and many see Brossard's speedy trial as an effort to avoid further embarrassment among the elite.
