BELLEVUE, Wash. (AP) -- A Bellevue policeman suffered a broken leg when he was struck by a car while directing traffic last night.

The accident occurred just before 6 p.m. near Northeast 4th Street and 111th Avenue Northeast in downtown Bellevue.

The officer had surgery for his broken femur.

The officer was directing traffic on foot after firefighters had extinguished a car fire. A 2008 Audi, driven by a 75-year old Bellevue man, hit the officer who was thrown over the hood of the car.
