| CONCORD, N.H. - A New Hampshire judge has been asked to order a mental evaluation of convicted tax evader Elaine Brown to see if she is competent to stand trial on conspiracy and weapons charges.
Brown's court-appointed lawyer, Bjorn Lange, says his client shows signs of delusion and is controlled by her husband and co-defendant, Ed Brown. The Concord Monitor says Lange has asked a judge to order the evaluation and to interview Brown privately about whether she really wants to represent herself at trial.
The Browns were convicted of tax-related felonies in 2007, but avoided capture for months by holing up in their Plainfield home, stockpiling weapons and threatening violence against federal agents. They're now accused of 11 felonies, including making explosives.
