Nobody likes paying taxes. But we begrudgingly do it. Unless you’re rich. Then you commit tax evasion. And you almost always get away with it.

But for the rest of us poor schlubs, we’re stuck forking over thousands of hard-earned dollars to pay for things like infrastructure, healthcare, “wars and politics that line the pockets of the richest one percent of the population so they can retain control and order over the world.” Well, one little turnip is sick of it. And he’s ready to do what it takes to avoid paying his tax bill.

Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion is an upcoming adventure game that I had heard about but not paid much attention to — until I saw the latest trailer. Check it out for yourself.

First off, I absolutely love the tone of this game. I don’t know much about the actual gameplay. I know it’s an adventure game in which you go on an epic quest to pay back your massive debt to Mayor Onion. You know, sort of what corporate CEOs do to get out of paying their debts to society — except it’s all cleverly presented through fruits and vegetables.

There puzzles to solve, bosses to conquer and fascinating characters to meet. There’s also this juicy teaser:

Along the journey uncover what’s spoiling this garden community and rise to tear down the corrupt vegetable government!

A corrupt government?! You don’t say! It’s not like anyone in government has ever committed a crime or performed an illegal act!

As I said, I love the tone of this game. Hopefully, the gameplay itself matches the enjoyment I’m getting out of its trailers.

Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion launches on April 22 for Nintendo Switch and PC. It will be priced at just $14.99. I wonder if they’ll be paying any taxes on the profits they make.
