| Government schools have long coasted on a wave of teacher worship driven by nostalgic memories of the sepia–tinged past and parental inattention to what actually goes on in government schools.
We blame "Our Miss Brooks" for much of it.
Parents attend open–house in the Fall and some bogus "graduation" in the Spring and consider their due diligence done.
Teachers, the administration and the school board are free run their indoctrination factories at full speed in the months between. When a problem comes up the solution was always more money for schools.
Today, for many parents, the sepia has worn off thereby exposing the leftist rot beneath.
Months of lockdown did what plunging test scores, children who can’t read, and lack of discipline in the classroom failed to do.
Parents are now questioning government schools, teachers, administrators and school boards.
Equally important, parents are now beginning to wonder if government schools haven’t been wildly expensive daycare all along.
The lockdown accomplished this by bringing the classroom into the home where parents could see for themselves what teachers are doing.
Fox News brings us a particularly relevant episode from California. California schools are for the most part still locked down.
This is because the left — which runs the schools and the teacher unions — only follows the SCIENCE! when it’s convenient. Rational people, even the CDC, have called for schools to reopen and students attend in person.
The California lockdown experiment continues at the expense of the student. ‘Distance learning’ is an oxymoron.
Students subjected to this malign fantasy are falling farther and farther behind.
The only group that supports it are teacher unions because their members do much less work for the exact same pay they received before the lockdown.
Since teacher unions run government schools the lockdown continues.
Parents with children in San Marcos High School had enough and filed a lawsuit to force the school to reopen. English "teacher" Alissa Piro didn’t take kindly to the thought of going back to fulltime work and she took it out on her students.
In a distance learning rant recorded by a shocked parent, Piro lectured, "If your parent wants to talk to me about their profession and their opinion on their profession, I would love to hear that... However, if your parent wants to come talk to me about how I'm not doing a good enough job in distance learning based on what you need as an individual? Just dare them to come at me. Because I am so sick to my stomach of parents trying to tell educators how to do their job."
The parent took the recording to school principal Adam Dawson, who in inimitable educrat style called Piro’s attack on her students "inexcusable" and then did nothing.
That’s why the parent went public.
These Zoom incidents aren’t a wake-up call for parents. The incidents are a Klaxon sounding battle stations.
Parents who care about the quality of their child’s education have two options: Get their kids out of government schools, our preference. Or reform government schools before it’s too late.
Demand accountability from teachers for student’s performance on standardized tests. Pay attention to the curriculum at the classroom and school–wide level.
Monitor the performance of the school board and closely examine candidates for the board.
Finally, don’t add another penny to school budgets until teachers, administrators and school boards start reflecting the will of local parents and taxpayers, instead of the bankrupt ideology of Ivy League faculty lounges.
Most important, be vocal and be present.
