| Bannon’s pardon is ‘one of his final acts in office’
Donald Trump has reportedly decided to grant a last-minute pardon to his former political adviser Steve Bannon as one of his final acts as president, hours before he is due to leave the White House, according to reports.
Trump “told people that after much deliberation,” he has decided to pardon Bannon as “one of his final acts in office,” a CNN report stated. However officials reportedly cautioned CNN that Trump's decision was not final “until he signed the paperwork.”
The Associated Press quoted a person, who spoke on condition of anonymity, as saying that Trump has “flip-flopped repeatedly” as he mulled his final pardons. The source warned that the decision “could be reversed until it’s formally unveiled.”
Mr Bannon, a former White House chief strategist and Mr Trump’s top campaign aide, was charged with swindling donors in a private attempt to build a wall along the US-Mexico border.
Mr Trump is expected to grant clemency to as many as 100 people. The list of pardons and commutations is expected to include both familiar and unfamiliar names of regular people who have spent years languishing in prison and as well as politically-connected friends and allies.
