There are several conservatives and Republican Party members who are angry at the Libertarian Party for “spoiling” the 2020 election.

Jo Jorgenson, that party’s candidate for president earned more votes than those separating the heads of the two major parties in a number of key states.

Similarly, in Georgia, a Libertarian Party Senate candidate may well have prevented Republican Sen. David Perdue from gaining the required 50 percent of the vote to avoid a runoff, necessitating a Jan. 5, 2021 runoff. According to political strategist Ryan Cassin, CEO of Beast Digital, “In this election, Libertarian voters could have swung the Electoral College by at least 22 votes by supporting Trump in battleground states Wisconsin, Michigan and Nevada. By throwing away their votes, they’ve likely become spoilers for the Trump reelection effort.”

In the view of global risk analyst Dennis Santiago: “There very much is a note of irony that the 1 percent Libertarian vote that cast its heart might be left with many of their core values at risk with the return of an Establishment Democrat president to the White House.”

All of this is now water under the bridge, or soon will be. Let’s look ahead. How can this sort of thing be prevented in 2022, or, more importantly, in 2024?

President Trump declared himself “somewhat libertarian.” That is a step in the right direction in creating a coalition, but it is only a baby step.
