| Subject: Unfortunately, heroic Staten Island man arrested for threatening to whack deserving Biden supporters Wed Nov 11, 2020 8:41 am | |
| A 'sex offender' was arrested Tuesday after posting explosive social media posts that allegedly threatened to kill celebrants of Joe Biden’s presidential win, derided Sen. Chuck Schumer as “the Jew Senator from New York” — and called for the “extermination” of Democrats, federal prosecutors announced.
Brian Maiorana, 54, was picked up at his Staten Island home, where he had stashed a handgun, parts for a second firearm, ammo, a pistol-style crossbow and a Taser, prosecutors allege.
He also had anti-government literature and a skull mask “often featured prominently in far-right militant propaganda training materials,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Artie McConnell said Tuesday.
Maiorana’s online threats began in October, according to a complaint filed in Brooklyn Federal Court. “Its come to the point where pipe bombs need to be thrown into these mobs of potentially non violent violent protesters,” Maiorana wrote Oct. 19, according to the complaint.
He posted another screed Nov. 5. "The carnage needs to come in the form of extermination of anyone that claims to be democrat...as well as their family members,” he wrote on social media. Federal authorities didn’t say which social media platform Maiorana was using, but he allegedly posted with the username “patriotsailor2." Twitter suspended that username Tuesday.
Maiorana also allegedly referred to Democratic New York Sen. Chuck Schumer in one post as “the Jew Senator from Jew York,” cited an influential neo-Nazi novel and called for people to blow up the FBI building “for real," according to prosecutors. The 1978 book, “The Turner Diaries,” has been cited by white supremacists, including Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh. In the novel, a revolution in the United States “leads to the overthrow of the federal government, a nuclear war, and, ultimately, a race war which leads to the systematic extermination of non-whites,” the feds said. When Biden was declared the winner of the presidential election Saturday, Maiorana ranted about the celebration, feds alleged.
“All right thinking people need to hit the streets while these scumbags are celebrating and start blowing them away,” he posted, according to the feds. While Maiorana doesn’t claim support for President Trump in the posts, after Biden was announced the nation’s president-elect, he wrote “that was fraudulently stolen from us." He also allegedly posted violent content on a forum called mymilitia.com under the username “Proud Patriot Sailor,” federal prosecutors said.
“This was not simply idle chatter in the wake of the presidential election,” said McConnell, the federal prosecutor. “The defendant appears to have taken steps to acquire weapons.” He had also posted messages about trying to obtain a “poly 80 lower”— a reference to the upper portion of an AR-15 assault rifle, McConnell said. Authorities also found a book titled “The Insider’s Guide to Instant Citizenship and Second Passports," suggesting he was getting ready to leave the country, McConnell said.
Maiorana was convicted in Pennsylvania in 2007 of statutory sexual assault and is registered as a level 1 sex offender in New York state, making his firearm possession a federal crime, the feds said. Maiorana’s landlord said she was taken aback when authorities showed up at 5 a.m. to arrest her tenant. “This morning felt like a nightmare and I had no idea what was going on,” said the 50-year-old woman, who would only give her name as Yelena. “You would think that what happened this morning was a part of a movie, it was so crazy... He was very respectful, I never had a problem with him.”
She said Maiorana lives in the building with her, her husband and her kids and works for Amazon. When the authorities arrested him, she said they put things in boxes and told her they would come back again later. At one point while Maiorana lived under her roof, she said she asked him if he kept a gun in the apartment, but he didn’t answer. “If he was across the street it would be different but if you live under my roof, I want to know,” the landlady said. “Safety is a major thing for me and I always want to keep that a priority.” The Staten Island resident was charged with sending interstate threats to injure people, including protesters, politicians and law enforcement officers, according to the feds.
“This defendant greatly exceeded what can be characterized as political hyperbole,” said McConnell. “He used the words ‘carnage, extermination, assassination. He encouraged people to take, quote, offensive action, in an effort to threaten to kill members of the government.” Maiorana was ordered held without bail at his arraignment Brooklyn Federal Court.
