| MANUFACTURERS WANT CONGRESS TO HOLD OFF ON PAID LEAVE: The National Association of Manufacturers sent a letter to Congress on Thursday evening pressing lawmakers to take immediate “action that will keep paychecks in the hands of workers and the lights on at manufacturing facilities across America.” Just as the U.S. Chamber of Commerce did earlier in the day, though, the trade group urged lawmakers not to pass a permanent mandate to provide paid leave to their employees.
— “While proposals regarding a broad and wide-ranging paid leave program are an important national discussion, manufacturers are best served today with an approach that addresses the most serious and immediate financial hardships and uncertainties caused by this rapidly spreading disease that we are all working hard to mitigate as quickly as possible,” Robyn Boerstling, the trade group’s vice president for infrastructure, innovation and human resource policy, wrote in the letter.
