| Subject: Idiots in Government: Northampton residents unable to cast votes on $2.5 million property tax override Tuesday over lack of ballots Fri Mar 06, 2020 8:19 pm | |
| Dozens of Northampton residents were not able to vote for a $2.5 million property tax override Tuesday due to a lack of ballots, officials said. Election workers ran out of Proposition 2½ ballots around 5 p.m. at Leeds Elementary School, where Ward 7B residents voted. No more than 50 registered voters were impacted during the 45 minutes when the polling location lacked enough ballots, said City Clerk Pamela Powers. “We have nothing to hide here. It’s a very unfortunate event. It’s never happened in the history of Northampton voting," Powers said. The city clerk attributed the mistake to a “communication breakdown.” Each polling location in the city started the day with 800 municipal ballots for the tax override. When Ward 7B ran out of ballots, the person tasked with delivering a second batch was in transit.
