| The state Trafficking in Persons Council will launch a new task force to combat prostitution and human trafficking at massage parlors in Connecticut, following a CT Insider investigation.
Lt. Gov. Susan Bysiewicz said the heads of state agencies “will be working with the Trafficking Council to do whatever we can, whether it’s administrative, whether it’s legislative.”
“It’s a terrible problem with a terrible human cost especially for children and for women,” she said.
Senate President Pro Tempore Martin Looney, D-New Haven, on Tuesday called on prosecutors in Connecticut to impose more fines on people who patronize prostitutes or promote prostitution. By state law, money from these fines is used to support human trafficking investigations, but in the past few years, the penalty was rarely imposed or collected.
