| The sister and an ex-colleague of injured policeman Constable Matthew Butcher have vented their anger after a man accused of felling the policeman from behind walked free from court last night.
Constable Butcher's sister, Vikki, wept outside the WA District Court as she said her brother will "never be able to fulfil his dreams" after the incident outside a Joondalup pub in February last year.
Robert McLeod, 56, and his two sons Scott James, 35, and Barry 29, faced nine charges including assaulting a public officer, making threats and obstructing a police officer.
Barry McLeod faced the most serious charge, one of doing an act with intent to harm which endangered the life of Constable Butcher after he felled him with what prosecutors described as a "flying headbutt".
But last night, the jury acquitted the men of all charges except on one count involving Scott McLeod.
He was found guilty of making threats to kill the civilian who recorded the incident on his mobile phone.
Outside court, Const Butcher’s sister Vikki said she felt "total disbelief in the justice system".
