Should women “submit to, keep house, and spoil their husbands like it’s 1959”? Alena Pettitt thinks so. She has been defending the lifestyle this week after she became the British champion of the “tradwife” movement, a group of women united by the idea that a woman’s place is in the home.
Mrs Pettitt, 34, told the BBC last week how she “craved that sense of belonging and home and quaintness” that comes with being a housewife. She is proud that her husband Carl, 48, a web developer, makes all the important financial decisions and gives her a monthly allowance.
She has also tweeted that “husbands must always come first if you want to maintain a happy marriage”.
