An aspiring mayor has been jailed for killing his pet dog with a hammer – then telling police he wanted to send the animal to heaven. Joseph Cryer, of Ocean City in Maryland, reportedly dumped his dog’s bloodied body in a trash can after clobbering the animal so hard lumps of flesh were found scattered in his garden. He is also believed to have cut his pet’s throat. Cryer, who ran for mayor of Ocean City in 2018, was reported to police by a neighbor in September 2019 after she heard him screaming inside his home. After a cop arrived, Cryer repeatedly screamed: ‘They killed my dog!’ then pointed towards his home as an officer approached him.
