| Bangladesh border security force guards who staged an armed mutiny have begun laying down their weapons, television station Channel i reported early on Thursday, quoting a government minister.
It said the rebel guards were surrendering their arms to Home Minister Sahara Khatun inside the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) headquarters, where the mutiny took place.
"The BDR troops have started surrendering their arms to the home minister," Channel i quoted junior minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak as saying.
The home minister went into the building shortly after midnight accompanied by the national police chief to conduct the surrender process, a senior police official told AFP.
It came 18 hours after violence broke out when senior officers dismissed the guards' appeals for more pay, subsidised food and holidays.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina stepped in late Wednesday to offer the rebels a general amnesty to end the hours of gunfire and panic in the Bangladeshi capital.
At least five people were killed in the violence, including two top army officers, and 42 others were wounded, police and medical officials said.
