| Subject: How do liberals rationalize their views? Sun Oct 13, 2019 11:57 pm | |
| We all know that liberals promote water and air quality, wilderness preservation, affordable child care, food safety regulations, affordable housing, transportation safety, proper hazardous waste disposal and many other social issues. They also want to protect social security, Medicare and social and legal justice. One might ask, what justifies or encourages these thoughts?
I believe liberals justify these issues in part, because of what our Constitution and other documents asks us to do. For example, our Constitution says: “We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”
When a liberal votes for equal and fair voting rights, clean water and affordable healthcare, they are saying these things promote the general welfare of our country. When a liberal endorses affordable education or ending poverty, they are saying these things are securing the blessings of liberty and establishing justice, just as our Constitution states.
Liberals also quote the Declaration of Independence which states, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal and they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among them are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”
Liberals say that all of us have an unalienable right to life. However, how can we have life without affordable medical care? People die every day because they cannot afford skyrocketing healthcare, costly lifesaving drugs and high insurance premiums. In addition, how can one have liberty when our country has more people in prison than any country on earth? And how can one pursue happiness when they are paid minimum wage, which puts them in extreme poverty and thus forcing them to beg for food stamps and other social programs?
Liberals also justify their belief of caring for others because the Bible says:
Deuteronomy 15:11 states, “I command you, you shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor in your land.”
Philippians 2:4 says: Let each of you look out not only to his own interest but also the interest of others.”
1 John says, “But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does Gods love abide in him?”
And don’t forget what Jesus said about the Good Samaritan and the parable where Jesus explained, when you help the poor and suffering you are doing it to Him as well.
