| Subject: Nice one! Iraq: U.S. Medic Guilty of Murder Gets Life in Prison Sat Feb 21, 2009 6:40 am | |
| A United States Army medic was convicted of murder on Friday for his involvement in the 2007 killings of four Iraqi prisoners whose bound and blindfolded bodies were found in a Baghdad canal. A military court in Germany sentenced the medic, Sgt. Michael Leahy Jr., to life in prison with the possibility of parole. Sergeant Leahy, of Lockport, Ill., had confessed to investigators that he shot one of the prisoners in the back of the head with a 9-millimeter pistol, but pleaded not guilty, arguing that he was dazed from lack of sleep and from being in a war zone for months. He was acquitted of a separate murder charge involving the death of another Iraqi.
