| Former Cascade County Undersheriff John Glen Stevens, charged in March with felony theft, changed his plea Monday in Cascade County District Court. According to Cascade County Attorney Josh Racki, Stevens pleaded no contest to the charge at Monday’s hearing before Kalispell Judge Amy Eddy. Stevens’ attorney requested a replacement judge for Cascade County District Judge Elizabeth Best, and Eddy accepted the case in April after the other three local judges declined. After an investigation by the Montana Department of Justice's Division of Criminal Investigation, Stevens was accused of taking several firearms purchased with county monies upon leaving the Cascade County Sheriff’s Office in January 2018. Ex-CCSO Captain Raymond Kenneth Hitchcock was charged with embezzlement, as well, for taking a firearm worth less than $1,500. He signed a deferred prosecution agreement in May.
