| Subject: Labour and Tories face polls disaster as it's confirmed Britain WILL take part in EU Elections - with Farage miles ahead Tue May 07, 2019 5:54 pm | |
| Theresa May is facing another election humiliation - this time at the hands of Nigel Farage's Brexit Party - after it was confirmed the UK cannot avoid holding costly Euro elections later this month.
Cabinet Office Minister David Lidington, the de facto deputy prime minister, said that despite weeks of gruelling cross-party talks with Labour ministers there was now not enough time to get Brexit done and dusted before they take place on May 23.
Mr Farage's party has soared into a nine-point poll lead as the Tories and Labour both falter and seems certain to steal seats from the Prime Minister's party during the £150million election.
The Tories lost more than 1,300 council seats in last week's local elections as it was deserted by voters over its handling of Brexit. The main way to prevent another electoral bloody nose was to get Brexit done so the election did not take place.
But speaking ahead of the cross-party talks on Brexit, Mr Lidington said that all efforts to get a deal through the Commons had so far failed, resulting in the meetings with Mr Corbyn's party in recent weeks.
