| Spending remains on a positive trend in Midland. In fact, after six months of sales tax collections, the city of Midland is on pace to shatter the fiscal year 2018 record for sales tax collected.
The city reported collecting $4.837 million in March. That total was a record for any March in Midland’s history -- 11.96 percent more than last year and nearly $2 million higher than the amount collected just two years ago.
The March collection pushed the total for the year to $29.863 million with half of the fiscal year remaining. That total is 17.61 percent higher than fiscal year 2018. In fact, the total through six months is more than $25 million collected during fiscal year 2009 – one decade ago.
