| Subject: Deluded Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich Compares Himself to King, Mandela, Gandhi Mon Jan 26, 2009 3:49 am | |
| Embattled Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich is comparing himself with Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King and Mahatma Gandhi, reports the Chicago Tribune. With his impeachment trial in the Illinois state Senate set to begin today, Blagojevich, accused of plotting to sell President Obama's Senate seat, is portraying himself as a political martyr.
When busted last month by the FBI in what he called a "surreal" arrest, Blagojevich said he "thought about Mandela, Dr. King, Gandhi, trying to put some perspective in all of this," he told NBC's Today Show. "I know I’ve done nothing wrong,” he added, insisting the Senate trial is "rigged and fixed." If 40 senators vote for his impeachment, Blagojevich will have to leave office immediately.
