The so-called "ban" on free, single-use plastic bags by the two major supermarkets Coles and Woolworths has elicited plenty of passionate debate for and against binning bags.

But one thing both sides agree on is that the supermarkets, now charging people 15ยข for a thicker plastic bag, are the real winners.
