Two leaders of a fundamentalist Mormon sect based in a mountain town were arrested on Wednesday and charged with practicing polygamy.

The arrests mark the end of prolonged investigations into the sect's activities in Bountiful, British Columbia.

The Canadian group is affiliated with the Yearning For Zion ranch in Eldorado, Texas, where the authorities seized 468 children in a raid last year.

One of the Canadian leaders, Winston Blackmore, is charged with being married simultaneously to 19 women.

The other, James Oler, is charged with being married to two women.
