The last Holden to roll off the Elizabeth production line today will be a bright red Commodore SS-V Redline with a six-speed manual gearbox, Drive has learnt.

It will signal the end of 69 years of producing Holdens in Australia that has resulted in almost seven million vehicles, at some stage accounting for more than 50 percent of the market.

The 304kW, 6.2-litre V8-powered sedan is a fitting farewell for the company given the image and importance of the V8 engine for Holden.

Those SS variants have also been the hot sellers throughout 2017, accounting for well over half the Commodores produced this year as enthusiasts snapped up what will go down as a piece of Holden history. The V8 has also been the basis of an important export program to America in recent years.

While the SS-V Redline sedan will be the last car off the line, Holden is expected to precede it with the other three body styles still being produced at its South Australian factory: a Commodore wagon, a long wheelbase Caprice and the classic Holden ute.
