| McLaren’s next-generation hypercar will be its “fastest-ever” model, pushing the brand into new territory.
The manufacturer has offered a glimpse into the development program of the halo car code-named BP23, releasing images of a special 720S-based mule converted to run in a three-seat configuration.
Drivers will be at the centre of the British marque’s top-tier model, echoing the cabin layout made famous by the original McLaren F1. Images provided by the brand show test driver Chris Goodwin in the centre of a reworked cockpit that features internally-mounted digital camera displays in similar positions to twin rear-view mirrors originally offered in the F1.
The new model is expected to echo McLaren’s breakthrough road car in more ways than one, with insiders confirming it will be “the fastest-ever McLaren”. Drive understands the benchmark goal for the car will not be a lap time, suggesting it could set new top speed records in the vicinity of 400km/h, or chase the Mercedes-AMG Project One into five second territory for the 0-200km/h dash.
