| Subject: Blowback: Top state for hate group recruiting in country is Texas, study says Sun Mar 12, 2017 12:01 am | |
| College campuses across Texas have been inundated with white supremacist fliers in recent months, landing the state in the top spot for most hate group recruiting incidents in the country, a new study shows. Since September, 107 hate group fliers have been found at 25 college campuses across the country, 65 of which were discovered in January, according to a March 6 Anti-Defamation League report. Fliers found range from those calling for a "Muslim-free America" to ones seeking help in the fight against Jews "destroying" the country.
In Texas, 17 white supremacist recruiting fliers have been found on campuses to tie California for the most such incidents to occur since classes began last fall. Fliers were found earlier this month at Texas Christian University and Texas State University. In San Marcos, anti-Semitic fliers were found March 3 on the Texas State campus, marking the fourth time since November that racially charged handouts were discovered.
A "Muslim-free America" and white supremacy poster was found March 4 on a campus bulletin board at TCU, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported. The ADL reports attribute the recent rise in hate group fliers and recruitment to white supremacists feeling "emboldened by the rhetoric of the 2016 presidential campaign."
