| Grandmothers have emerged as the unlikely saviours of ethics classes in NSW primary schools, which are proving resilient despite the introduction of politically charged barriers to enrolment last year.
The not-for-profit organisation which runs the classes, Primary Ethics, says there are 32,000 NSW children receiving ethics education in 420 or about a quarter of NSW schools, with 30 new schools starting the classes for the first time this year.
The Department of Education removed the ethics option from the school enrolment form last year in a move that critics said amounted to an attempt to deliberately hide it from parents, following former Premier Mike Baird's office's discussions with religious groups.
