A prosecutor has asked for harsher punishment of a British couple who were convicted of having sex on a beach in Dubai.

Michelle Palmer and Vince Acors were sentenced to three months in prison on October 16.

But court records say that on Sunday the prosecutor asked Dubai's Court of Appeals for a longer prison sentence.

Palmer and Acors could be jailed for up to 18 months for engaging in sex outside of marriage, drunkenness and public indecency.

The couple appealed the three-month sentence last week.

A hearing on both appeals has been scheduled for November 18.

The couple were detained in July. They remain in Dubai and out of jail on bail.
