| Subject: Why 'everything in moderation' is the worst nutritional advice you've ever heard Fri Jun 10, 2016 3:43 am | |
| I eat one square of chocolate every night. My husband has half a block, but only once a week. My friend Jo eats half a block every single day. My personal trainer tries to avoid chocolate but succumbs to temptation once a month.
We all enjoy eating chocolate, and we all think that we are enjoying it moderately. And yet, demonstrably the four of us all have very different ideas about what moderation actually means.
The term 'everything in moderation' is often hailed as a healthy approach to diet. Particularly in the wake of more extreme lifestyle trends that encourage followers to give up certain foods altogether.
There is nothing wrong with the philosophy. But, when it comes to practicing it, there is an obvious flaw; moderation is very subjective.
