| CIVILIAN seamen were last night blockading an armed vessel that has been at the forefront of the Defence Force's crackdown on illegal foreign fishermen in Australia's northern waters.
Nine men refused to leave the 98-metre Triton - which has been under lease to the Australian Customs Service - when it docked in Darwin yesterday. The men, aged 25 to 52, had been told they had been sacked and non-union workers earning up to $25,000 a year less would replace them.
"As individuals we have made a collective decision not to leave the ship until we get our jobs back," one of them, Mark Wheatley, 54, told the Herald by telephone.
