| Subject: Entrepreneur offers innovative DIY coffin product -- conventional funeral directors quiver Wed Apr 06, 2016 11:01 pm | |
| A Polish coffin-maker who has invented a flat-pack Ikea-style coffin is feeling the wrath of funeral homes owners, who say his products are disrespectful to the dead.
Zbigniew Lindner, who has been in the funeral business for 25 years, designed the do-it-yourself coffins, which come with a bag of screws and corner braces, and an instruction leaflets, and can be put together in minutes.
Lindner would not say how much the coffins cost, but told The Telegraph they were cheaper than conventional ones.
The DIY-coffins have not been well received in Poland, and funeral companies there are accusing Lindner of disrespecting the dead. Even the the Polish Chamber of Funeral Homes urging its members to boycott the DIY products for "ethical" reasons.
"Treating a coffin like an ordinary piece of furniture or a DIY-cupboard from a shop undermines respect for the deceased," said the association in the letter.
