| The Small Business Ombudsman warns more than 70,000 small businesses' livelihoods are under threat if the Road Safety Remuneration Tribunal brings in minimum payments for owner operator drivers.
The order requiring minimum payments was set to come into effect on Monday, but truck drivers got a last-minute reprieve in the form of a Federal Court order granting a stay on the decision.
They won't be able to compete with the big guys as they will have to charge higher rates for drivers and contractors.
Owner operator driver Bunny Brown says the minimum payment requirement will be bad for small business owners running transport businesses.
