| The dangers of texting and driving are well known but University of Newcastle staff have been left puzzled by a "safety alert" not to text and walk.
A group email to employees says "a number of university staff" have been treated this year for injuries suffered on campus while using their phones to text, email or check social media.
"When using your smart phone ... you're not in full control with the action of walking because you can't see the path in front of you," the email says, according to the Newcastle Herald.
Associate director of health and safety Dr Maggie Goldie said two staff members had been hurt in "self-declared" text-walking accidents, and there were a handful of other suspected cases.
