| The Marshall Islands government says action on climate change is a matter of survival for its people, adding the country is feeling the effects now.
Foreign Minister Tony de Brum has warned the islands are already experiencing droughts and floods at the same time, rising sea levels and severe storms.
Before a meeting with Opposition Leader Bill Shorten on Tuesday and global climate talks in Paris, Mr de Brum told ABC radio: "It is a matter of ... survival for us".
Deputy Labor leader Tanya Plibersek said Mr de Brum showed how a big storm surge had washed a boat into his house.
"When you visit islands like this that are barely above sea level and think about what the future holds for them, I think it's very confronting and a very strong motivator for action from Australia," she told ABC radio.
