| Dodgy private colleges have been put on notice again as the federal government faces fresh pressure to crack down on unscrupulous providers.
There are concerns too many students are dropping out of studies with private training providers and leaving the taxpayer with their loan debt bill.
The government spent $1.4 billion on loans to VET providers last year, despite fewer students completing private courses compared to those in the public system including TAFE.
Labor says it's a scandal that the government should fix.
Opposition Leader Bill Shorten said many Australians would be concerned about taxpayer money being used to rip off vulnerable students, calling for a boost in TAFE funding.
