| A man has died after being handcuffed during a police raid of a home in the Western Bay of Plenty.
Officers searched the Te Puke property, east of Tauranga, at 8.45am Wednesday.
They spotted a firearm inside the house and arrested a man in his 50s, who was the only person in the house.
He was placed in handcuffs by officers during the search, said police.
"Although the man appeared verbally agitated, there was no physical struggle," said Bay of Plenty police spokeswoman Kim Perks.
After being handcuffed the man collapsed, suffering from "an apparent medical event", police said.
"The handcuffs were immediately removed and police staff commenced CPR."
Officers continued CPR until an ambulance arrived, but the man had already died.
