| The Federal Circuit Court risks losing its registries and at least six judges if people do not continue to pay more money to divorce their partners.
The court - which faces a $6 million loss this year - is short six judges, with at least one more expected to retire later this year, a spokeswoman confirmed. It has 60 judges who preside over the vast majority of all family law cases, with a new judge to be sworn in next month.
Attorney-General George Brandis, QC, recently sneaked through a regulation raising divorce application fees from $845 to $1200 in the Federal Circuit Court. It also raised all other family law fees by about 11 per cent on average, despite the Senate disallowing a slightly smaller hike earlier this year
