A Sydney man has been jailed and beaten in Saudi Arabia for being caught with alcohol.

Peter Mutty, 57, was arrested with two cartons of home brewed light beer and two cases of homemade red and white wine in his car, the Daily Telegraph reports.

The grandfather was sentenced to six months imprisonment and a beating. Most foreigners caught with alcohol are often deported.

Mr Mutty, who works as an engineer in Al Khobar, told media he accepted his sentence and that he knew what he did was wrong.
