CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. (AP) — An official in Virginia says a man convicted in his wife's death was found dead in a nearby holding room shortly after the verdict was read.

Becky Wilburn is a spokeswoman for the town of Christiansburg. She said in a statement that Mark Ward Faville was pronounced dead in the Montgomery County courthouse Friday.

Wilburn says it's believed that Faville died from a self-inflicted wound. Wilburn said no further information was available.

The Roanoke Times (http://bit.ly/1ydQw8w) reports Faville had been escorted to a holding room after the jury's verdict was read convicting him of voluntary manslaughter in the 2000 death of his wife, Anne Michelle Faville.

A commotion then ensued. The fourth floor of the courthouse was evacuated and the entire courthouse later was placed on temporary lockdown.
