| Subject: Rubbish: OZschwitz Council for International Development warns aid cuts will hurt global relations Sun Mar 01, 2015 4:47 pm | |
| The Abbott government's deep foreign aid cuts are undermining the national interest and harming Australia's relations abroad, aid organisations say in a major pitch to reverse the cuts in the coming budget.
Marc Purcell, head of the Australian Council for International Development, said the aid cuts were done in such a "cavalier fashion" by the Treasurer that they were done without consideration of the impact on the national interest.
In a submission to the federal government, the ACID calls for the aid budget to be restored by $1 billion in this year's May budget and another $2.7 billion to be repaired in the forward estimates.
