A joint anti-child exploitation team established in Perth late last year has made their first arrest with a 54-year-old man due to appear in court today.

The new taskforce between WA Police’s sex crime division and the Australian Federal Police’s child protection operations has been working together to combat online child exploitation in WA since December last year.

It is alleged the man used an online community board in December in an attempt to meet teenagers.

During December 2014 and January 2015 the man used online messages to communicate with a 14-year-old boy.

Police further allege the man arranged to meet the boy at a Perth CBD hotel on January 30, but was met by taskforce officers who arrested him.
