Four peace activists were arrested at a Royal Air Force (RAF) base in Lincolnshire, northern England, on Monday while protesting against Britain’s use of armed drones. The site hosts the control center for UK drones abroad.
Two men and two women were arrested by local police on suspicion of aggravated trespass and criminal damage after they cut through wire fencing at the RAF outpost in Waddington in what they said was as a “New Year gateway for peace.”
The activists subsequently unfurled a banner that read “End the Drone Wars.”
The group, which goes by the name End the Drone Wars, also brought reports documenting civilian casualties resulting from airstrikes in Iraq and Afghanistan to the site of the demonstration.
They staged the protest to highlight what they warned was a “growing normalization and acceptability of drone warfare.”
