A San Francisco Bay Area man accused of shooting at two police officers has been apprehended after a lengthy manhunt in a neighborhood.
South San Francisco police said they arrested Ivan DeJesus Gomez, 23, on suspicion of attempted murder after searching for more than seven hours Thursday morning. Neither he nor the officers were injured.
Officers responding to a 3 a.m. report of gunshots were searching the neighborhood when someone opened fire on them. Police shot back, and the man ran away.
Gomez, of South San Francisco, was found hiding in the area of the shooting at 10:30 a.m. A gun hasn't been located.
Representatives from the South San Francisco Police Department were not immediately available to provide more details.
The shooting comes amid heightened tensions nationwide over attacks on police elsewhere in the country after the killings of unarmed black men by white officers in Missouri and New York.
This week in Los Angeles, two officers came under fire, initially stirring concerns they had been ambushed just days after two New York City officers were killed. But an investigation found that the LAPD officers had driven into gang-related gunfire Sunday.
