| Deputies shot and killed a white supremacist suspected of shooting a black man to death early Wednesday in South Tacoma, Pierce County sheriff's officials say. Just before 5 a.m. when deputies received a call about a shooting at the Woodmark Apartments, in the 2400 block of 96th Street South. Arriving deputies found the severely injured victim, a black man believed to be in his 20s. He died at the scene. Deputies then tracked the suspect to the nearby Drake Apartments, in the 2200 block of 97th Street South, when residents there called 911 to report a suspicious man in the hallway who matched the suspect's description. The suspect pulled a gun on deputies and opened fire as soon as they arrived at the Drake Apartments, said Ed Troyer of the Pierce County Sheriff's Office. "When our deputies arrived they didn't have time to talk with (the suspect) -- he pulled out a semi-automatic handgun and fired a round. Our deputies fired rounds back, and our suspect is deceased," Troyer said. The suspect was later identified as a man in his 20s from the Gig Harbor area who is a known white supremacist. The names of the suspect and victim were not immediately released. Investigators are now at both apartment complexes, trying to determine what led to the original shooting.
