| Subject: ‘What Hostage-Taking Is All About’: City Democrats Rally for Rent Regulation Wed Nov 19, 2014 2:56 am | |
| A parade of city and state elected officials gathered this morning to announce their intentions to battle for stronger rent regulation laws next year, despite a Republican majority and even a governor who may be hostile to their interests. The elected officials and tenant advocates, speaking outside City Hall, promised a full court press against State Senate Republicans and the real estate industry as the state’s rent control laws are set to expire next June. “We are lined up here in the cold day in November to make sure that we in the state legislature, we folks in decision-making positions, that we will put human need ahead of human greed,” said Assemblyman Keith Wright, the chair of the Assembly’s housing committee. “We are here to fight for the soul of New York City.”
