OZschwitz: Police pursuit murders yet another motorcyclist

A 21-year-old Bundaberg man died in hospital this morning from injuries sustained after he crashed his motorcycle into a traffic island during a police pursuit last night.

The 21-year-old's death follows two others on Queensland roads in the last 24-hours, taking the 2008 road toll to 186.

Police said the Bundaberg motorcyclist failed to stop at a random breath test site on the corner of Takalvan and Hampson Streets at about 10pm.

A police spokesman said a police car, with emergency lights and siren operating, began a pursuit which ended when the motorcyclist struck a traffic island at an intersection.

The motorcyclist was treated at the scene but later died.

The incident is being investigated by the police ethical standards unit.

Two Brisbane men also lost their lives in two separate accidents yesterday.

The first fatality took place in the Brisbane suburb of Capalaba at about 5.50pm when a 33-year-old motorcycle rider died after his bike collided with a bus at the intersection of Redland Bay Road and Smith Street.

The rider died at the scene, however, the bus driver escaped uninjured.Police are still investigating who was to blame for the crash.

At about 9.25pm, a 31-year-old man lost his life when his car collided with another at the intersection of Blunder and Bowhill Roads, Durack, on Brisbane's south.

Ambulance officers treated the man, however, he too died at the scene.

Police are investigating whether the deceased's failure to stop at a red light caused the accident.

The female driver and sole occupant of the of the second vehicle was charged with drink driving and will appear in the Richlands Magistrates Court in August.
