OZschwitz: The right to look up schoolgirls skirts violated

A FORMER Sydney schoolteacher convicted of using a hidden camera to film up the skirt of a schoolgirl has had his sentence suspended. Robert Ian Drummond, 42, who taught at Cromer High School on Sydney's northern beaches, was convicted last month of possessing and producing child pornography.

According to evidence before the court, the girl, 14, was at a shopping centre when she noticed the camera in Drummond's bag and told her mother. On realising he had been discovered, Drummond ran from the store.

Magistrate Julie Huber said at Downing Centre Local Court yesterday that given the offences covered by child pornography, which extend to enslavement and physical abuse, Drummond's were at the lower end of the scale.

She said people had a right to be outraged by the behaviour but also acknowledged that only one child was involved.

Ms Huber gave a four-month jail sentence but suspended it because Drummond accepted a good behaviour bond and continued counselling.
