The NSW government has announced a state-wide report card for preschoolers that will enable kindergarten teachers to preview children coming into their classrooms.

But parents and teachers remain concerned over the funding of early childhood education and the amount of children not in formal education.

The eight-page transition to school statement asks teachers, parents and four-year-old students to summarise their experience of relationships, independence and communication skills.

Until now, students transitioning from pre-school to kindergarten have relied on an ad-hoc reporting system run by individual schools.
